Warfare and tactics in modern warfare have undergone drastic changes of late due to highly unpredictable ground situation and target audience. In fact, with the rise in stealth bombing, uses of drones, ambush, enemies taking advantage of hydroponics and geographic peculiarities of a region, modern war has evolved from direct fighting or firing to unique tactical combats.
This means both sides are equally vigilant at one another’s position such that a small mistake by one would be a windfall for the other. Exploiting even the weather conditions, night combat, force concentration and stealth observation and other detection method are also among the main tactics deployed by an armed force of a country.
- Since large scale war is almost history as nowadays nations are more worried about militants, insurgents and terrorists there is no specific country that could be declared as an enemy. Instead the enemies moving in large numbers are not only scattered within a country, but even outside too and hence makes it very hard to segregate them to attack and annihilate them.
- Most of these groups of militants also mingle with other social groups and civilians and any broad attack would mean loss of lives of many innocent people too. Hence, modern war tactics are more of a tactical fight with a group of armed soldiers moving towards an isolated pocket of terrorists to make a full fledged attack and then retreat.
- Sometimes, one group attacks a terror group taking up firing positions while the other group moves towards a more favorable position to start their unique operation. Many times the groups of such trained soldiers are given a drill performance so as to enable them to flawlessly execute the operation in the actual battle ground.
- During a night combat a well equipped group of soldiers with rifle optics and other similar night vision scopes may inflict the maximum damage on the enemy. You may have heard of such contact drills, ambush drills, shoot and scoot, infiltration techniques and marching fire by soldiers in war zones of Middle East from the newspapers after such a successful operation.
Modern war has seen the growth of number of tactics and may include one or more of such warfare like the exploiting and killing of civilians of ones opponent to threaten them into submission. The other type is the guerilla tactics that forms a sympathetic line with the civilians so as to get assistance for waging attacks on the enemy. Here, some civilians are drawn towards ones favor by propaganda and diplomatic tact so as to attack the position of the group holding them hostage.
A psychological war is unleashed sometimes by an army or country with the help of information spreading, nuclear threats and space prowess. A psychological war is made in order to get the enemy to follow ones orders or to lessen casualty of both soldiers and civilians. A country or an army armed to its tooth may act as psychological pressure to an erring enemy.
